Affiliate Summit Slideshow - Web 2.0 for Affiliates

The next installment of the Affiliate Summit Slideshows brings us: “Web 2.0 for Affiliates.”

You will quickly be left behind if Web 2.0 strategies are not part of your overall marketing blueprint. How are affiliate marketers using these new kinds of media and what impacts are they having?

Notes for The Slides from the presenter: Notes for slide23 Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users (also known as twits) to send updates (otherwise known as tweets) which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Notes for slide24 Pipes is a powerful composition tool to aggregate, manipulate, and mashup content from around the web. Notes for slide25 Widgetbox enables people to find, make and distribute web widgets for blogging, social networking services, and personal websites. There are literally thousands of widgets, but surprisingly very few affiliate widgets. We’ll look a little deeper into this a bit later. Notes for slide26 Facebook applications Again, there are many, but few affiliate ones. Admittedly, facebook is a tough nut to crack for affiliates. Notes for slide21 Now, a very quick trip into web 2.0 tools. I have to confess that I know very little about this, but wanted to add it for completeness. Sam Harrelson published an excellent list fo web 2.0 tools he recommends that all affiliates become familiar with. Here is his list. For more on this list see FeedFront June 2008. Notes for slide20 Video ads have a few standard formats, but usually are identified by the little arrow play button. Video ads for affiliates generally have Notes for slide19 Now to video ads. We’ve all heard about them. We’ve all used them. The real question is, can we make money from them? My answer would be YES, and no.First, we need to understand that video ads advertising is complicated. There are the various video ad types. The ones most useful for affiliates are those that a user must click on to start. The action of a user clicking to start an ad generally pays nothing to an affiliate. In fact for video ads affiliates generally get paid for a video impression and maybe for a click to the merchant site. Notes for slide18 In-Text Ads are user-initiated ads that appear within online content when a word is highlighted in a different color, usually with a double underline. When the reader mouse over the word, a small window opens with a text and/or a graphic ad and by clicking on the ad the user is linked to the advertiser’s webpage. Notes for slide13 So before we can tackle web 2.0 creatives, we need to have some consensus on what traditional creatives are. Here is my list. You may disagree with some, but I took the approach that these are creatives which have been used for over a year and ones which are fairly commonplace today.
